The NYSERNet Data Center is the newest addition to the suite of services that NYSERNet offers its member institutions. Located in Central New York State - home of NYSERNet's operational headquarters, in a region not historically prone to natural disasters - the 2,000 sq. ft. commercial grade data center was designed in collaboration with NYSERNet's members specifically to enhance their disaster recovery and business continuity strategies. The Data Center is concurrently maintainable. Multiple distribution paths (one active, one redundant) for cooling and power, with redundant (N+1) capacity, mean that planned maintenance can be performed on critical infrastructure systems without shutting down the data center and inconveniencing system administrators and users. The Data Center is colocated adjacent to NYSERNet's network POP in Syracuse, extending NYSERNet's optical and Research & Education (R&E) networks to the Center. The resulting network infrastructure is robust and flexible, enabling participants to connect to their equipment via GigE, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel SAN, the NYSERNet R&E network and the commercial Internet. The Center has a total burstable capacity of 1.0 Gb of Tier 1 commercial Internet service. Access to the Center is available to authorized personnel 24/7/365 and is strictly controlled via a card-key access system. The facility is under 24/7 video surveillance. Facility intrusion, fire detection and HVAC systems are monitored 24/7. Fire protection is provided by an early-warning fire detection system, including smoke and high temperature detectors, and an FM-200 fire suppression system. Lockable 19" cabinets are standard. On-site assistance is available and is provided by NYSERNet's highly qualified engineers. On-site assistance is scheduled with the NYSERNet NOC. Scheduled business-day services are available with one business day's notice. Emergency on-site assistance is available within two (2) hours on a 24/7/365 basis. Participants receive an annual allowance for scheduled on-site assistance. The NYSERNet Data Center is conveniently located in proximity to two major interstates, Hancock International Airport and an Amtrak terminal.
